We visited the School of nursing, the principal was away, so we interacted with the lecturers who were so enthusiastic and lovely.
We then met the student nurses who do a 3 year diploma course, 2 years doing a degree and then a year doing masters. They sat on the floor crossed legged studying intensely out of English nursing books – amazing to see there discipline.
Many of them go to work in hospitals in community settings, rural villages.
They were all very positive and curious about the way we nurse in England.
There were a number of students who were sponsored by the RDT and then went on to qualify as nurses to work in the various project hospitals.
We have seen a massive change since Sister Thomas, previous principal, retired and their interaction and positivity shone through.
We went into their practical work shop and library where they learn more or less the same as us.
